My Statement of Interests

“Dear, why you always judge people from their clothing?” was something my friends used to ask me in my early teens, and they were right. To me, fashion represents the person itself and more like a body language. A form of non-verbal communication that presents a lot to the observer about the wearer. For me, this was not the only reason I planned to acquire my graduation in fashion studies.

One of the aspects of seeking admission and studying fashion studies program which I found unique is that fashion itself flourishes on the unexpected.

I am interested wholeheartedly in developing new ideas related to the future of this international industry, including effective communication among cultural and environmental concerns, consumers and the business. I am intrigued by the opportunity to combine my interest and passion for fashion products with merchandising skills.

Moreover, with annual work experience as a merchandiser assistant at a reputable fashion brand, I have acquired experience of invaluable fashion retail environment and this where I want to stand in the future.

Besides, my tentative plan of studying fashion studies is because I see flaws in some key elements of fashion, such as the lack of flexibility in fashion merchandising. In such a fast-paced industry where consumer and brand engagement is crucial, along with sustainability and value addition to the consumer, I would like to enhance this area.

Promotion

For the promotion of fashion products efficiently, it is essential to gain an in-depth understanding of the consumers’ desires and products. This course of fashion studies will eventually advance my professional skills required in fashion merchandising and buying. It will also help in cultivating my capabilities and expertise which I will be requiring in initiating a successful and rewarding career.

Moreover, various American and European brands are renowned, particularly designer brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Whereas, several other recognized brands remain unknown to the public in other countries. This course will help in learning the fashion merchandising strategies that eventually will encourage the acceptance and entrance of less familiar brands into the market.

Further, there are significant research questions and professional goals which I intend to acquire, such as (a) How the globalization factor can contribute to becoming a successful fashion buyer?

Fashion

Fashion is one of the widely diversified and largest industries throughout the globe. Due to my status as an international student, I will have the opportunity of accessing different fashion trends. ‘aiming to go globalized’ has now become the principal objective of each fashion brand. These background opportunities will eventually help me in becoming an international fashion brand as a buyer.

The second research question is how a fashion buyer can pace up with the speedy and changing trends globally? As a fashion buyer and merchandiser, I will have the responsibility of producing such a store experience that is appealing to the consumers. Besides, I will also have the responsibility of selecting accessories and clothing that will be placed in the retail stores.

Also, it will be my duty as the fashion buyer to assure that I chose relevant pieces as per the fashion based on the emerging trends and past sales history. This eventually will help my organization and me in pacing up with the updating and fast-moving fashion.

Last but not least, considering myself as the scholar and performing self-assessment of my work, I will point out my strengths and weaknesses. One of the biggest strengths is that my work has well-pointed out the essential tactics that are required by a fashion merchandiser and buyer to be successful globally. Whereas, one of the biggest weakness is that I have not addressed the additional responsibilities of a fashion merchandiser and buyer.
